2 Corinthians

Chapter 5

1 For we know1492 that if1437 our earthly1919 house3614 of this3588 tabernacle4636 were dissolved,2647 we have2192 a building3619 of God,2316 an house3614 not made886 with hands,886 eternal166 in the heavens.3772

2 For in this5129 we groan,4727 earnestly1971 desiring1971 to be clothed1902 on with our house3613 which3588 is from heaven:3772

3 If1489 so be that being clothed1746 we shall not be found2147 naked.1131

4 For we that are in this3588 tabernacle4636 do groan,4727 being burdened:916 not for that we would2309 be unclothed,1562 but clothed1902 on, that mortality2349 might be swallowed2666 up of life.2222

5 Now1161 he that has worked2716 us for the selfsame846 5124 thing is God,2316 who3588 also2532 has given1325 to us the earnest728 of the Spirit.4151

6 Therefore3767 we are always3842 confident,2292 knowing1492 that, whilst we are at1722 home1736 in the body,4983 we are absent1553 from the Lord:2962

7 (For we walk4043 by faith,4102 not by sight:1491)

8 We are confident,2292 I say, and willing2106 rather3123 to be absent1553 from the body,4983 and to be present1736 with the Lord.2962

9 Why1352 we labor,5389 that, whether1535 present1736 or1535 absent,1553 we may be accepted2101 of him.

10 For we must1163 all3956 appear5319 before1715 the judgment968 seat968 of Christ;5547 that every1538 one may receive2865 the things done in his body,4983 according4314 to that he has done,4238 whether1535 it be good18 or1535 bad.2556

11 Knowing1492 therefore3767 the terror5401 of the Lord,2962 we persuade3982 men;444 but we are made5319 manifest5319 to God;2316 and I trust1679 also2532 are made5319 manifest5319 in your5216 consciences.4893

12 For we commend4921 not ourselves1438 again3825 to you, but give1325 you occasion874 to glory2745 on5228 our behalf,5228 that you may have2192 somewhat to answer them which glory2744 in appearance,4383 and not in heart.2588

13 For whether1535 we be beside1839 ourselves, it is to God:2316 or1535 whether1535 we be sober,4993 it is for your5213 cause.

14 For the love26 of Christ5547 constrains4912 us; because we thus5124 judge,2919 that if1487 one1520 died599 for all,3956 then686 were all3956 dead:599

15 And that he died599 for all,3956 that they which live2198 should not from now on3371 live2198 to themselves,1438 but to him which died599 for them, and rose1453 again.1453

16 Why5620 from now on575 know1492 we no3762 man3762 after2596 the flesh:4561 yes,1161 though1499 we have known1097 Christ5547 after2596 the flesh,4561 yet235 now3568 from now on2089 know1097 we him no3765 more.2089

17 Therefore5620 if1487 any1536 man be in Christ,5547 he is a new2537 creature:2937 old744 things are passed3928 away; behold,2400 all3956 things are become1096 new.2537

18 And all3956 things are of God,2316 who3588 has reconciled2644 us to himself1438 by Jesus2424 Christ,5547 and has given1325 to us the ministry1248 of reconciliation;2643

19 To wit,5613 that God2316 was in Christ,5547 reconciling2644 the world2889 to himself,1438 not imputing3049 their trespasses3900 to them; and has committed5087 to us the word3056 of reconciliation.2643

20 Now3767 then we are ambassadors4243 for Christ,5547 as though God2316 did beseech3870 you by us: we pray1189 you in Christ's5547 stead,5228 be you reconciled2644 to God.2316

21 For he has made4160 him to be sin266 for us, who knew1097 no3361 sin;266 that we might be made1096 the righteousness1343 of God2316 in him.

Chapter 5

1 FOR we know that if our earthly house were destroyed, we still have a building made by God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heaven.

2 We also weary over this earthly house, earnestly longing to use our house which is in heaven.

3 If not so, even when we are clothed, we will still be naked.

4 While we are in this earthly house, we groan because of its weight: yet we are unwilling to leave it, but rather wish to add to it, so that death will be overcome by life.

5 Now he who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given to us the pledge of his Spirit.

6 Therefore we know and are convinced, that so long as we dwell in the body, we are absent from our LORD.

7 For we walk by faith, and not by sight.

8 This is why we are confident, and anxious to be absent from the body, and to be present with our LORD.

9 Wherefore we endeavor, that, whether present or absent, we may be pleasing to him.

10 For we must all stand before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may be rewarded according to that which he has done with his body, whether it be good or bad.

11 Knowing therefore the fear of our LORD, we try in a persuasive way to win men; so we are very well understood by God; and I trust we are also understood by you.

12 We are not boasting of ourselves to you, but we give you occasion to be proud of us, before those who glory as hypocrites but who are not sincere in heart.

13 For if we go wrong, we answer to God, and if we go straight, it is for you.

14 For the love of Christ compels us to reason thus, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that those who live may not henceforth live for themselves, but for him who died and rose for them.

16 And now from henceforth we do not know any one in the body: even though once we had known Christ in the body, we no longer know him now.

17 Whoever from now on is a follower of Christ, is a new creation: old things have passed away;

18 And all things have become new through God who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 For God was in Christ, who has reconciled the world with his majesty, not counting their sins against them; and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we beseech you for Christ; be reconciled to God.

21 For he who did not know sin, for your sakes he made him sin, that we may through him be made the righteousness of God.
